Hey 👋,
Let's celebrate the Easter Egg. (Not the chocolate kind).
"Can we add this thing"
"What KPI does it increase?"
"(Developer just does it anyway, because it's funny)"
Here are some of my favourite:
1. Monzo's shoe easter egg
While getting an insurance quote, Monzo visualise "people in your house" with a shoe rack. Eventually, the shoes just pile up on the floor.
2. Creative one-time passwords
When creating an account on Coolors, the one-time-password is a colour hex code.
3. Chatting to a 404
WhatsApp’s 404 page recreates a conversation.
4. Using Reddit at work?
Inspecting the web console of Reddit will show a message prompting you to apply for a job.
5. Interactive Pizza bot
If you poke the Dominos "pizza bot", it'll react both visibly and with a text message.
6. Fishing inside Google
If you make a search without any results on Google, you'll see an animation of this monster fishing.
If you click on them, they'll catch an assortment of items (tin cans, boots, etc).
7. Karate Kid Easter Egg
Statamic have a subtly interactive Daniel San (Karate Kid) figure that shows a message and plays the sound of Mister Miyagi saying "if do right no can defence".
8. Keep scrolling...
On Citymapper, if you scroll to the end of the page, and then forcibly keep scrolling, you'll find an underground illustration easter egg.
9. A cat on your keyboard
Whilst getting a quote for pet insurance, Lemonade use this "cat on keyboard" gimmick in their chatbot.
10. Cineworld's errors
If you run into an error while booking cinema tickets, you'll see a themed movie quote.
P.S., I just added a 5-week UX Bootcamp to BFM+.
It basically covers the 5 key areas of design, and (using the BFM+ library), allows you and your team to focus and upskill in a more structured way.
Oh, and 5 weeks of BFM+ costs less than £15, instead of a £1,000 course.

Good UX takes time. Bad UX costs money.
