It started with a lemon.
When we closed the deal to partner with Squeezy's creators, I wanted to show good faith and redesign the game's logo.
Visual design can unite teams and build relationships quickly.
The current logo was set in Arial, but it had a great theme to work with.

When starting out, pick a word that represents your direction or brand and then explore it with curiosity.
What are some characteristics of that word? List them out.
I wanted the logo to be lemon-themed, but that wasn't the word.
Instead, I looked to embody the word "Squeeze."
Pick a typeface
The first thing to do is pick a typeface that feels on brand to the word you picked.
I found two that I liked. But one was more legible in all sizes.
I used the typeface Agrandir as a starting point.
It has a ton of character with its long, squishy letters.
The 'Q' was perfect.

Transform the text
Starting with a great typeface for your logo gives you a head start.
A single font represents dozens of hours a designer has poured into it.
Inside a tool like Figma, you can turn the live text into editable shapes you can move around.
|
I teach this in lesson 15.
You can create something new by pushing the points around, like making a lemon feel like it’s pushing the letters down.
|
Creating the lemon
I don’t draw from scratch. I remix images.
So, the first step is to find an image of a lemon close to how I imagined it.
Then I trace the image to distill the image to a simple shape.
|
I may do this on my iPad or in Figma with the pen tool.
Afterward, I found some simple smiling expressions to give the lemon a playful feel.
The final touches: the lemon drops
At this point, the logo is pretty much done.
Here is where you look for some quick wins, by adding a little detail to make it truly unique.
Adding a few lemon drops adds a little to the squeezing sensation.

Showcasing your logo
I ended up using just the lemon for an icon, which you can see in the footer of our game sites. We're up to eight games today!

I use Rotato to do quick mockups, which also has a Figma plugin.
Canva Pro also has a lot of great mockup tools as well.
